Shocked and Shocking in the “Casa Blanca” tradition

Woke up this morning with some sense of anticipation.  Went in, turned on the TV, went to C-SPAN 2 hoping to watch what has been held out as dramatic expected testimony.  Three highly placed “Whistle-blowers” were going to spill all regarding Benghazi and the cover-up that brought Obama election victory in November 2011.

Some speculate the results of the testimony before the House committee, could result in the impeachment and removal Obama from office of President.

Got to C-SPAN 2 and there saw the banner as one-minute speeches on not-so-interesting topics were being given by members of the House.  The banner read that the hearings were on C-SPAN 3!!

I don’t think there is a television on the planet that has C-SPAN 3!!!

Given that my Netbook was not working well, I couldn’t get to C-SPAN 3!!  Fox News I understood from listening to the Rush Limbaugh show, was doing wall to wall coverage.  Unfortunately I don’t have access to Fox.  But no worries… surely this major news event would get coverage elsewhere.

To my “shock” and “surprise” – there were no other media outlets with coverage.  Later I would catch the gripping story of the witnesses via re-broadcasts once I got to a real computer (I hate my netbook and it’s linux os!).

But how many other’s will have that testimony?  Delayed for 8 months, and now buried by the media, these courageous whistle blowers deserve better – as do the four who died for their country – largely due to the political scheming of those ambitious for a presidency (one wanted a second term – the other looking to 2016 to become the first woman president).

SCOTUS redefine religious ceremony… and ignore greater issue

Arberesh Byzantine Catholic Wedding

There is not a church in all the land that does not perform a particular ritual, whereby two people proclaim their devotion to one another until death does them part.

Highly religious in context, I know only the symbolism of the Christian marriage – or Jewish wedding – wherein God is the groom and His people, His bride.  He once divorced his bride Israel.  The wedding feast of the Lamb (Jesus, Second Person of the Christian Trinity), is coming when the Groom comes to gather up the Church (the Bride) and the marriage is performed and done.

All this to ask this:  Why is the state regulating a religious activity via marriage licenses and their legal requirements?  The first marriage licenses were given out in the mid-1800s when some states began allowing interracial marriage, so long as the couple received a marriage license.

There is a provision in the Constitution forbidding the creation of a federal establishment of religion (federal/national church) in the Constitution – yet here we are with very new practice of licensing of religious ceremonies and potential interference in another of our rights protected:  Freedom of association.

While yes there are legal incorporation of various kinds, friendship is not one of them.  Between intimate partners?  Why?

Government policies and benefits given married heterosexual couples now has opened the unintended confusion of the defining of “marriage” a religious ritual.  It did so by introducing benefits that could be with-held from persons not involved in the required marriage formula.

Thus the attempt (likely successful) to expand that definition of that relationship to “spread the wealth” around to those not fitting the current definition – derived from what is primarily a religious rite, purpose and ceremony.  If state policy is served, does that justify intrusion into a forbidden area of defining and establishing validity of a religious rite?

So what’s the point?  The point is that the government (states in particular, since they are the ones that should be regulating the matter – and federal in that it enforces definitions to gain benefits) need to get out of the marriage business.  As such concerns over one state imposing it’s morality on another disappears!

You’ve got to wonder when “let them eat cake” line coming!

They cut out the White House tours, but not the $184,000 an hour plane rides for our joy riding prez.  He is traveling on some legitimate business – granted.  But how many trips to Hawaii, how much traveling out for golf with Tiger?  How much extravagance will the “vice” prez stack up when he hits foreign shores?

Reported by Drudge:

On it goes.  This is soooo reminiscent of the French aristocracy and its extravagances, that Obama should be shivering in his boots.  Especially as the results of ObamaCare continue to come in.  Already talk of retiring physicians (6 of 10 reported to be on this track).  Companies to trim work forces below limits of 50 to avoid mandates for health care.
Meanwhile the senate’s first budget in four years has no cuts and a trillion in new taxes.
When can we come up for air?  When will enough be enough?  Our foreign policies are proving failures on almost every continent.  Benghazi questions go unanswered, and our president storms the middle east with “charm” as his answer to the Israeli / Palestinian conflict.
Oh my aching ears and eyes from seeing /hearing these reports!!
But one thing is certain – hopefully – things must get worse before they get better – before Americans wake-up to the nightmare they’ve installed at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
Hate to end on such a note!  Hopefully some will take this comfort below, and to those who cannot, remember – “this too shall pass.”
Psalm 146: 3-5

3Do not put your trust in princes,

in human beings, who cannot save.

4When their spirit departs, they return to the ground;

on that very day their plans come to nothing.

5Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob,

whose hope is in the Lord their God.

“FREE” Health Insurance for Everyone!!!! ?????

CNSNews.com) – In a final regulation issued Wednesday, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) assumed that under Obamacare the cheapest health insurance plan available in 2016 for a family will cost $20,000 for the year.”

I’m tickled pink and just plain gregarious over this bit of news!  I thought the pain of medical care would go away under our fearless Leader, Kim Il Obama, but now I’m overjoyed to know the pain will gain!

A good thing we turned this over to the government and ignored those Republicans who want to keep health care, and all, ALL, associated issues with health care – in private hands.

Here’s to the all powerful and knowing government of Barack!

Conservatism will yet have its day

George Wills makes an excellent point:  Because the fiscal cliff deal made permanent the Bush-era tax cuts for all but about 1/2 of 1% of top taxpayers, financing the large federal apparatus liberals have in mind – is not possible.  “The math” will not permit the vast expansions of federal power!

Now that’s good news!  Fought it hook, tooth and nail, with a house speaker jaw boning a deaf president in private, this is nevertheless, a good thing.

Now we plunge on to another crises:  The Debt Limit.  Fiscal legislation originates in the House, money measures must originate with it.  If it wished, it could mandate (to maintain the good faith and credibility of the United States) allow for interest payments to investors, and shut down any expansion of further debt.

It would be vetoed – of course – and a crises of “government shut-down” ensue.  Only essential federal expenditures could take place.  One can’t ask for a more conservative approach to spending!  Hopefully government, under those circumstances, will shut down.  The result of Senate  inactivity, or veto should the Senate pass the bill proposed by the Republicans in the House.

Respectfully Quoted: A Dictionary of Quotations[1] points to The United States Magazine and Democratic Review, whose editor wrote in 1837, “The best government is that which governs least.”

Liberal’s carry their defeat with them

“…Churchill and Ronald Reagan are the two statesmen I know who regarded the Soviet Union as weak, even at the height of its power, because it was built on self-contradictory propositions and its system led to obvious and repeated injustices. Churchill believed that also of the socialist government to which he lost in 1946.”   Larry P. Arnn President,  Hillsdale College, November 7, 2012

So too, can the regime of liberalism led by Barack Obama be viewed in similar light.  Its foundational principles, its programs, ambitions, and goals – simply are not realistic – based upon false principles or premises.  People are very careful to not identify those principles the present government powers hold to so firmly:

1.  An elite, not the “masses”, should rule.

2.  Everything belongs to the government and corporations, distributed as seems best to the elites, to the little people.

3.  All the privileges of feudal lords, now reside with the governmental and corporate elites.

These are the foundations of fascism.  They inherently deny all that the heart holds for the dignity of man and self-respect.  It will be defeated.

Remember: Government spends whatever it can

We don’t have the votes in the Senate, but wouldn’t it be refreshing to going down for principle?  Pray tell, what have we to lose?  Pass a Conservative bill and make the Senate/Obama kill it.  They would be the ones causing a tax hike for the middle income earners, then, not us.

Short, sweet and simple solution to fiscal cliff

“No revenue is sufficient without economy.” — Ben Franklin, Founding Father

Modern day rendition of the thought:

“It’s clear the president is just not serious about cutting spending. But spending is the problem,” Boehner said at a news conference earlier today. “The president wants to pretend spending isn’t the problem. That’s why we don’t have an agreement.” — John Boehner, Speaker of the House

The “Game” isn’t over

Politics!

The games being played in our country add up to monumental losses of freedom or successful defenses against attacks of it.  The Republic – can it stand?  You see the Federal government infringing on personal choices and liberty – and yet some signs of life are in the State government.

Dozens of states refuse to set up federally mandated health insurance “markets”,  Michigan adopts  right to work laws  joining others elsewhere – letting people choose to join unions or not.  Texas toys with succession from the Union again.  Suddenly I remember the word “Federal” and what it means…

Divided government and divided responsibility between federal and state governments.  We need the divide these days, and to use it as possible.  Today, states have more Republican governors than either party have held in decades.

It looks like “states’ rights” will have to assume a better reputation, and heft itself up to the challenge of these four years to come.  Perhaps the states are the most viable way of preserving the Union with its republican and federal principles intact.

“Thou Shalt not covet thy Opposing Party’s Base”

I’m no Ronald Reagan, as anyone who actually knew him would know.  But a new commandment giveth I thee Republican Party – “Covet not thy opponent party’s base.”

Violation of this basic command shall result in the death of the Republican party’s purpose for existence, and thus threatens it’s very existence!  “The wages of sin is death” as it says.  Why?

Chase votes with promises similar to the Democratic party, and you become it.  Why should any bloc of voters go with a poor imitation of the original Democrat promises and pandering?

Thoughts that once you have their base you can transform it, is pretty useless since the party itself would have no character left to bring about that end.  In fact, it will have transformed itself into a wing of the Democratic Party.

Every time the Republican party sets aside principle to win one of these voter blocs of the Democratic Party, it sets aside its soul, it’s very foundation destroyed.

Real Republicans start staying home or start a new party that has principles and vigor born of them.  Or the Party can recognize its need to keep its heart, and the enthusiasm of its own current base.  Better to stand for something, than fail because no one knows “why” you “are”.
